“Great Things”
by:
Russell McLaughlin
Some “Christians” are prone to look on the dark side of
everything. There is a
tendency to dwell more on what they have been through than what God has
done for them. If you were
to ask them about their impressions of the Christian life they would
tell you of their constant conflicts, their deep afflictions, their many
adversities and even of their own sinful hearts.
It would seem they would overlook any mercy, help or deliverance
they have enjoyed.
The third verse of the 126th Psalm expresses the
feeling that every Christian should have:
“The Lord hath done great things for us; wherefore we are glad.”
Just a few of the things the Lord has done for us would include:
lifting us out of the mire of sin and placing our feet on solid ground.
He has given us a new son, one of deliverance.
He has given us that “peace that passes understanding”.
He has introduced us to the “seasons refreshing from the presence
of the Lord.” This is only
the beginning.
It is true we have had our disappointments, and they are often
with ourselves, but it is equally true we have been delivered from them.
We have been through the valleys of despondency, but He has
always led us to higher ground.
We have been in those places of humiliation, but He has conveyed
us to respectability. We
have been deep in the slough of sin, but He has lifted us up to that
higher plane. It would make
a great difference in our lives if we would adopt the truth that “the
Lord hath done great things for us.”
What we have to be positive about:
- Our God is alive (Genesis 1-3)
- Our Savior (Matthew 1:21, Revelation 1:5)
- Our Bible (II Timothy 3: 16-17)
- Our Salvation (I John 5:13)
- Our Power (Ephesians 3:20)
- Our Reward (Revelation 2:10)
- The Church (Matthew 16: 13-18)
- Our Hope (Romans 8:24)
May God Richly Bless You!
